Ten Tracks: Volume 3

6 05 2009

album-cover-5-06

The third installment of 10 tracks brings back the nostalgia of songs that you played on your Discman.  Titled ‘Just can’t lose my uptown groove‘, the mix is a compilation of 80s/90s rock jams (peppered with a dose of electro).  Download it, share it…it’s totally gnarly…I mean tubular!

Ten Tracks: Volume 2

In honor of today’s festivities, I present the Cinco de Miami mix.  Unlike the subtle charm of yesterday’s songs, this is filled with grimey club bangers.  Now grab that bottle of Patron and take care of business!

Introducing Ten Tracks: Volume 1

4 05 2009

The rain today inspired a new addition to the blog – called 10 tracks.  Simply put, these are 10-track mixes that focus around a particular genre.  The first installment, “The Rainy Day Session” is an indie/electronica mix to get a night started.  Enjoy!

On a side note – make sure you’re at the SPACE INVADERS launch party at Citrine this Thursday.  Info to come!

Thursdays at Citrine

15 04 2009

citrine1

Join me this Thursday for the start of our new weekly party at Citrine (the former Snitch).  Mike De Guzman and friends will be hosting and I’ll be DJing along with Peter Parker.  Expect a no attitude indie-dance-party where everything goes, regardless of the genre.  Here’s a sampling of how silly we’re getting.

hipster house: Lykke Li – Little Bit (autoerotique bootleg remix)
classic rock: Norman Greenbaum – Spirit in the Sky
late-night electro: Don Rimini – Let me back up (crookers tetsujin mix)
dance rock: Jet – are you gonna be my girl
mashups: Flo-Rida vs Brandon Flowers – Tell Me its not over (B-roc of the knocks refix)
hip-hop:  DJ Class – I’m the ish
throwbacks: Michael Jackson – Beat it

For all my marketing gurus out there, help me come up with a name for this party (in the comments section).  It should invoke either/both of the following themes: (1) nostalgia for youth/playfulness/antics, (2) a genre-busting night of creative music mixing.  If I use your name, you’ll get to host a table and get a free bottle at one of my events.

Citrine is located on 21st and 6th Avenue.  Say my name at the door for free entry.

-xoxo

The Prodigy After-Party

26 03 2009

prodigy

Alex English and I are DJing the official after-party for The Prodigy.  That’s right…THE PRODIGY.  It seems like just yesterday when my little brother would blast ‘The Fat of the Land’ album in our bedroom – much to the chagrin of our parents.

Time to dust of that old crate of industrial and breakbeat….errrrr…mp3s.   See you there!

Something old: The Prodigy – Funky shit

Something new: The Prodigy – voodoo people

A remix: The Prodigy: Smack my bitch up (alexxvo remix)

A mashup: TotoM- Pigs must march (Prodigy vs NIN)

New Party at Tribeca Grand

18 03 2009

friday-tribeca-invite

Join me this Friday, March 20, 2009 as I DJ/host “House of Confession Fridays” @ The Church Lounge in the Tribeca Grand Hotel! I’m playing from 11:00-1:30 and Corey (Airloom) will play from 1:30 to close.

*No cover, just mention Vikas @ the door.
*The Tribeca Grand Hotel is located @ 2 Avenue of the Americas @ White & Walker

For more info, guestlist or table reservations, email: bookings@vikassapra.com

Disclaimer: I did not come up with the name for the party!

The obvious tunes for this post would be party bangers you’d expect on Friday.  Instead I’m leaving you with really mellow, merry indie rock:

Bon Iver – Blood Bank

Kings of Leon – Closer

David E. Sugar – although you may laugh

Noah and the Whale – 5 years time

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – hysteric

See you at the party!

Monday night Mayhem

11 03 2009

Artem (Messkid) and I played at Le Royale this past monday.  What resulted was a night of EPIC proportions. The dance floor was packed to the brim till 4:00 in the morning…and then….stayed that way till we closed the place down almost 3 hours later.  It’s always refreshing to have a night that reminds you of why you started to DJ.

Artem killed it with disco and bangers, while I got to play all my favorite grimy rock and roll and electro for a change. Some of the favorites of the evening included:

Wolfmother – Woman (Mstrkrft remix)

Tom Vek – I ain’t saying my goodbyes

The Walkmen – The Rat

The Clash – Train in vain (discotech remix)

Fischerspooner – Emerge

I’m in L.A. this weekend, but will be back next week.  Stay tuned for a new party that’s in the works.
